Prepare for removal of PPTP VPN before you upgrade to iOS 10 and macOS Sierra

Are you currently using a VPN? There is a good chance that this VPN using a technology called PPTP.

PPTP is one of the oldest client VPN technologies but it has a significant design floor for a security app. The authentication model used for PPTP is easily hacked and its vulnerabilities are well know in the security industry and well documented.

Apple are amongst the first manufacture to start a moment to get rid of this obsolete technology by removing it from its latest operating system Mac OS  Sierra.

So what do you do if you are using PPTP vpn?

You need to contact your supplier about using a new alternative VPN technology. Such as:

  • L2TP/IPSec
  • IKEv2/IPSec
  • Cisco IPSec
  • SSL VPN clients on the App Store such as those from AirWatch, Aruba, Check Point, Cisco, F5 Networks, MobileIron, NetMotion, Open VPN, Palo Alto Networks, Pulse Secure, and SonicWall
